The Trip-Planning Prompt That Builds a Full Itinerary in One Shot

Most AI trip plans are just a list of famous landmarks with no sense of pacing, distance, or how tired you'll actually be by day 3. This prompt fixes that by forcing a realistic, day-by-day structure.

The prompt

Plan a [X]-day trip to [destination] for [number of people].
Budget: [budget level - backpacker / mid-range / luxury].
Interests: [food / history / nature / nightlife / etc].
For each day give me:
- a morning, afternoon, and evening activity that are
  actually close together geographically
- one food recommendation (specific dish or area, not just "try local food")
- one thing to skip if we're running low on time or energy
Keep at least one day loosely planned for wandering.

Why it works

  • Geographic clustering stops you from zigzagging across a city and wasting half the day in transit.
  • "What to skip" is the detail most AI itineraries leave out, and it's the most useful part when plans slip.
  • One unplanned day keeps the trip from feeling like a checklist.

Follow-ups

Turn this into a packing list based on the weather and activities.
Suggest a backup rainy-day version of day 3.

One prompt, one real itinerary — no more 40 open tabs of "best things to do in [city]."
